Cover for "Old Ways" nearing completion

My artist has been busy creating the cover for book 2 of my trilogy. He has done good work I reckon. Old Ways is launching early July. I can't wait!

Review: Those above by Daniel Polansky

Those Above - Daniel Polansky

I listened to this book in Audio, and enjoyed the experience immensely. This is the first book (of two?), and largely acts to set the scene for the battle to come. This is exactly the type of book I enjoy. Daniel's command of language is just beautiful, and he paints a vivid world, with a diverse cast of flawed characters.

I won't go into it too much, but "Those Above" introduces four people that are wildly different in character and standing in their society. By the end of this book, they have not interacted yet, but I can already see hints of how their lives will collide. There is a pretty big separation between "Those Above" (tall, smart, highly intelligent humanoids) and the humans that serve them. About half of the book takes place on "The Roost", a city built on top of a big spire (as best I can tell) with each rung a step down in social class. It makes for an interesting world.

I could not put this books down (ie pause it), and I highly recommend it to any fan of fantasy.

Golden Son

Golden Son - Pierce Brown Wow... what a way to end it. Better write fast Pierce.

Fool's Assassin

Fool's Assassin - Robin Hobb Not bad, but the everyday stuff that is most of the book grew tedious. And that cliffhanger... urg. While effective, I'd have liked the whole thing much better if it went down at the 1/3rd stage. Next book should be good. This one? It's well written, and I liked spending time with Fitz and co, but in the end it was just okay.

Prince of Fools

Prince of Fools - Mark Lawrence Really enjoyed this one. I might like Jorg better, but two awesome new characters with plenty of potential... yes please.

The Heroes

The Heroes - Joe Abercrombie Such an awesome book! I have a bunch of new favorite characters now

Asterix the Legionary

Asterix the Legionary - René Goscinny, Albert Uderzo Asterix is still awesome.

Rogues

Rogues - As is often the case with these collections, some really good, some a bit meh

Into the Storm

Into the Storm - Taylor Anderson

More than a bit goofy but thoroughly enjoyable and well written
